SLUSHi Light Decoder

Ninja SLUSHi lights flashing? Decode them.

Your SLUSHi only has one way to talk to you: those little lights. Some patterns mean “relax, I'm freezing your drink” — others mean fix the recipe, reseat a part, or call Ninja. Match the pattern below and get the answer in seconds. Slushable is not affiliated with Ninja.

Which pattern is your SLUSHi flashing?

Each card below plays a real FS300 light pattern. Match it to your machine and we'll tell you what it means, how worried to be, and exactly what to do.

Temperature lights pulse while a preset runs

Normal

Standard freeze-cycle status, not a warning. The Temperature Control LEDs pulse while the drink comes down to the set level, then the unit beeps three times and keeps churning. Frozen drinks take 15–60 minutes depending on ingredients, volume, and starting temperature.

All preset LEDs flash

Vessel install alert

The vessel isn't installed correctly. Reseat in Ninja's order — auger onto the pin, vessel over the auger with the bail handle up, then lock the bail handle — and power back on.

Temp LEDs flash one at a time, descending

Low-sugar alert

The mix is below Ninja's 4% sugar minimum and physically can't slush. Add a sugar source per serving (syrup, juice, honey, agave), stir it through, then reset and restart the preset.

Temp LEDs flash one at a time, ascending

High-alcohol alert

The batch is over-proof — Spiked Slush wants 2.8–16% ABV. Dilute per serving with juice, water, or a non-alcoholic mixer, then restart the preset.

Every temp LED flashes with repeated beeps

Motor-stall alert

The motor stalled and the unit disabled it to protect the drive. Unplug, cool for about 15 minutes, remove the parts, clear anything jamming the auger, and reassemble. If it flashes from the moment it powers on — no auger movement, no Rinse — treat it as a startup lockout and contact Ninja support after one careful reseat.

Top 5 and bottom 5 temp LEDs alternate

Upright warning

The unit detected it was on its side during use. Stand it upright on a level surface and give the refrigerant at least 2 hours to settle before running it again.

Every other temp LED alternates

Unit failure alert

Ninja's unit-failure alert — there is no home fix. Power off, unplug, and contact Ninja Customer Service with your FS300-series model details.

What's normal (really)

  • Pulsing temp LEDs while a preset runs: status lights, not a warning. The batch is coming down to temperature.
  • Fan noise and warm sides: the compressor has to move heat — those side holes are vents, not symptoms.
  • Three beeps, still churning: the drink is ready and the machine is keeping it pourable.
  • 15–60 minutes to freeze: ingredients, volume, and starting temperature all move that window.

What not to do

  • Don't power-cycle it ten times. One reset is diagnostic; a plug-pulling marathon just muddies the diagnosis.
  • Don't add ice or frozen fruit to “help” — the SLUSHi is not a blender, and solids can jam the auger.
  • Don't crank thickness at a fault pattern. Thicker settings help a thin batch that's running, not a stall or lockout.
  • Don't assume every beep is low sugar. The low-sugar alert is a specific descending sequence — all-lights-at-once is a different problem.

Skip the alerts next time. Build the batch in the app.

The flashing lights are the machine checking your math — at least 4% sugar, 2.8–16% ABV for spiked slush. The free Slushable app gets the numbers into the slush zone before you pour, and its built-in Slush Doctor fixes a batch that's already off.

Flashing lights FAQ

Ninja SLUSHi lights — answered

Sometimes. Temperature LEDs pulsing while a preset runs is normal freeze-cycle status — the machine is bringing the drink down to the set level, and it beeps three times when the batch is ready. Every temp LED flashing at startup, especially with no auger movement and no Rinse mode, is not the normal pattern and should be treated as a machine issue.

Air movement is usually normal — the condenser and compressor need airflow, so warm air from the side or back vents isn't by itself a fault. The real question is whether the machine is running: fan noise plus a spinning auger is routine, while fan noise plus a startup lockout points at hardware. Keep at least 4 inches of clearance around the vents either way.

Ninja's FS300 FAQ says every Temperature Control LED flashing with a double beep each minute is the motor-stall alert — the unit temporarily disables the motor to protect the drive system. The official steps: unplug it, let it cool for about 15 minutes, remove the parts, make sure nothing is jamming the auger, then reassemble. If it stalls again on a clean, well-seated machine, contact Ninja support.

That's the vessel-install alert. Reseat the parts in order: auger over the evaporator until it drops onto the pin, vessel over the auger with the bail handle up, then push the bail handle back to lock and seal. Power on and the presets should light normally.

Yes — but the pattern matters. Low sugar is a specific alert: Temperature Control LEDs flashing one at a time descending from the top, with flashing presets and repeated beeps. Ninja requires at least 4% sugar for a mix to slush. It is not the same as all temp lights flashing at once, which points at a stall or lockout instead of the recipe.

Two patterns are support territory: every other temperature LED alternating (the unit-failure alert — there is no home fix), and all temp lights flashing from power-on when the auger never spins and Rinse won't run. For the startup case, do one careful reseat and airflow check first; if it comes back, stop troubleshooting and contact Ninja Customer Service.
