Straight wine will not slush: a 12% bottle has too much alcohol and almost no sugar for a home machine. Every recipe here fixes those two numbers with juice, syrup, and dilution, so the wine flavor survives and the hopper still freezes.

Work in this order. Decide the batch size. Add fruit purée or juice for flavor and body. Add simple syrup until the mix reads 12–16° Brix. Then add water until the hopper ABV sits under about 8%. Chill the mix and pour to the fill line. The full worked example, with calculator numbers for a frosé-style batch, is in the wine guide linked below.
Sparkling wine is the easiest wine to slush because a spritz already dilutes it with juice and a sweet aperitivo. Let the bubbles out first, or the hopper foams. Aperitivo liqueurs such as Aperol carry a lot of sugar, so they usually replace some of the syrup rather than adding to it.
FAQ
Yes, once it is rebalanced. Wine alone is too strong and too dry to freeze. Add sugar to reach 12–16° Brix and enough juice or water to bring the hopper under about 8% ABV, then it slushes like any other batch.
Yes, on the spiked program. A rebalanced frosé sits inside the FS301's 2.8–16% input range and well above the 4% sugar minimum. The wine guide has a calculator-checked batch to start from.
About one 750 ml bottle per 1.85 L batch is the usual ceiling. That leaves room for roughly a litre of juice, syrup, and water to get the sugar up and the alcohol down.
It can. Pour it out and stir until it goes flat before mixing, and never fill past the max line. Foam that keeps building is a sign the mix is too warm as well as too fizzy.
Slushable is a free app and recipe library for home slush machines. Every recipe is rebalanced to the right sugar (Brix) and alcohol (ABV) so it actually freezes into a smooth slush — no watery puddles or rock-solid blocks.
These recipes are dialled in for countertop slush machines like the Ninja Slushi. You can still blend them as a frozen drink, but the sugar and alcohol are tuned specifically so they freeze cleanly in a machine.
Yes. Every recipe is free to browse here, and the Slushable app is a free download. Open any recipe in the app to scale the batch to your machine and run a guided freeze.
It's almost always the Brix or ABV. Too much sugar or alcohol stops a mix from freezing; too little turns it to ice. Slushable works those numbers out for you, so each recipe lands in the slushable zone.
Absolutely. The library has plenty of zero-proof, family-friendly recipes alongside the frozen cocktails, all balanced to the same fluffy texture.
